The Housing Health and Safety Ratings System – private renting

The Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) is designed to keep the occupants of buildings safe and well by removing any potential hazards in the property.  Dealing with temperature and moisture problems including MOULD GROWTH is classed as a CATEGORY 1 HEALTH HAZARD, when reported the landlord must rectify the problem.  The council can proceed in many ways to enforce this but the landlord MUST take action to remove the hazard and prevent its reoccurrence, failure to do so will incur further actions including property inspections by the council.
